Youth who participated in the inaugural AZ Barrio Writers workshop on ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus in June enjoyed activities such as freewriting, journaling and sharing their work in a public reading as they developed their voice as writers.

The weeklong program, hosted by the School of Letters and Sciences and directed by English education doctoral student Tracey Flores, also featured discussions about culture, community, education and self. Young ASU alumni and other guest presenters from the ASU community shared information about how participants might connect their dreams and goals to particular academic majors and career paths.
